Stare is an experimental film and existential exploration of time and the cyclical nature of existence. Admittedly, some decisions were made purely for aesthetic reasons. Naturally, a bicycle wheel is a central device in the film, acting as book-ends to the abstract narrative, because bicycles are rad. What more needs to be said?
I drew a lot of the inspiration for the aesthetics from the grainy nature of old film. I felt the nature of the content warranted a dated look and feel, that perhaps one has stumbled across some ancient knowledge that has been lost to time. I created my own textures to replicate the film grain by way of overlaying a sequence of frames of a marked concrete floor.
